2009-10 National Women's Under-18 Team

Red 3 - White 2 (Game Complete in Shootout)

AMBROSE NETS SHOOTOUT WINNER AS RED ENDS CAMP WITH WIN

CALGARY, Alta. – Erin Ambrose might be the youngest player at the National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camp, but the 15-year-old showed Thursday she has the nerves of a veteran.

Ambrose (Keswick, Ont.), the lone 1994-born player at camp, scored the game-winning goal in a shootout as Team Red earned a 3-2 victory over Team White in the final game of camp. Red finished with four wins in six games, taking the camp series.

The game belonged to the goaltenders, with all six netminders in camp seeing a period of action and combining to turn away 57 of the 62 shots they faced. Red’s Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) and Carmen MacDonald (Pictou, N.S.) and White’s Cloé Desjardins (Saint-Prosper Que.) were all perfect in their 20 minutes of action.

Kayla Tutino (Lorraine, Que.) and Jillian Saulnier (Halifax, N.S.) notched goals for Red, while Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, Ont.) and Jessica Campbell (Melville, Sask.) replied for White, which took a 2-1 lead after Campbell beat Erica Howe (Orleans, Ont.) with a rocket of a shot under the crossbar.

Mélodie Daoust (Valleyfield, Que.), one of seven returnees in camp from last year’s silver medal-winning team, led the camp in scoring with six points in four games, while Kristy Garrow (London, Ont.) had a camp-best 2.26 goals against average between the pipes.
Of the 40 players in camp, 22 will make the final National Women’s Under-18 Team roster, which will be announced in early August.
