Tournament vs. AAA Midgets
Team Canada and the Royals faced-off for the second time of the tournament in a battle for third place. Both teams finished the round robin with a 0-2-1 record and were after their first win of the tourney.
The Royals got into penalty trouble early as Kyle Chartrand was called for checking, but Canada could not take advantage. The Royals struck first as they broke out ona 2 on 1. After the initial save by Sami Jo Small, Jack Maclellan picked up the loose puck and buried it past a sprawled Small.
Team Canada turned it over again which case another 2 on 1 midway through the period and the result was much the same. After Small made the initial save, Bran Thompson made no mistake and scored on his own rebound making 2-0 Royals.
The Royals quickly made it 3-0 after John Shaw let a wrister go from the slot past Small on the glove side. After one period of play it was 3-0 Royals.
With Piper off for tripping early in the second the Royals continued to press for their fourth goal and it come just after the penalty expired as John McAllister beat Small. That signaled the end for Small as Kim St-Pierre came in as her replacement.
Canada had a golden opportunity to get on the board as they had a two man advantage for just over a minute. However, Canada ran into a hot goalie as Thomas Hewton-Waters made several highlight real saves to keep Canada off the score sheet. However, Canada broke is shutout not too long after as Katie Weatherston was aloud to walk out in front from behind the net and slid the puck five-hole on Hewton-Waters. Canada played a dominant period outshooting the Royals 15-6.
The Royals made it 5-1 in the third when Brad Thompson buried a centering pas from Jack Mclelland. The Royals struck again just 36 seconds later as Zach Johnson lifted one over the shoulder of St-Pierre.
Despite outshooting their opponents 35-25 Team Canada was downed 6-1 by the Royals.
