UNITED STATES WINS BRONZE IN CHARLOTTETOWN

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – The goals came fast and furious for the United States on Saturday.

But none of them were as memorable as the goal scored by Taylor Lipsett four minutes into the second period of the USA’s 9-0 win over Japan in the bronze medal final of the 2008 World Sledge Hockey Challenge.

Lipsett, who is from Mesquite, TX, found himself alone in front of the net with the puck. He quickly scooped the puck onto his blade and flipped the puck in the net lacrosse-style. The goal generated a few oohs and aahs from the fans at the CARI Complex.

Lipsett, who finished with two goals, was named player of the game for the United States.

Tim Jones started the scoring parade early on, when his quick shot from the top of the circle got past Japanese goaltender Shinobu Fukushima at 2:04 of the first. Jim Connelly and Brad Emmerson also scored and the US led 3-0 after 20 minutes.

Lipsett, with two, Adam Page and Andy Yohe scored in the second to make it 7-0, and Emmerson and Taylor Chace concluded the scoring in the third.

It was the second win for the US against Japan this week in Charlottetown.
