Norwegians knock off USA to earn berth in gold medal game
Knut Andre Nordstoga scored midway through the third period, sending Norway to Saturday’s gold medal game against Canada following a 5-3 win over the USA on Friday night.
The Americans jumped out to a quick 2-0 early in the opening period on goals from Alexi Salamone and Chris Manns, but the Norwegians would tie the game before the end of the opening 15 minutes, with Rolf Einar Pederson – with his tournament-leading eighth goal – and Tommy Rovelstad answering the early American goals.
Salamone scored his second of the game early in the middle frame to restore the American lead, but again it was Pederson finding the back of the net for Norway, sending the game to the third period tied 3-3.
After Nordstoga gave the Norwegians the lead, Stig Tore Svee rounded out the scoring, getting the insurance goal in the final minute, moving Norway onto the gold medal game and sending the Americans to the bronze medal game against Germany.
The Norwegians have dropped three of four against Canada this year, and also finished as runner-up to the Canadians at last year’s Paralympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy.
