Red vs. White
Development Camp - Intersquad #3
Thursday night, the final day of the National Junior Team Development Camp, featured the third Red/White intersquad game. With the series tied at one game apiece, both teams went into the game looking to put on a good show for the coaches and for the near capacity crowd at Father David Bauer Arena.
Thursday’s game was a high scoring affair as opposed to the previous two games that featured defensive battles. Team Red got off to a very quick start scoring 20 seconds into the game as defenceman Shawn Belle slid the puck past Ryan Munce at 19:40 of the 1st period. From then on, it was all Team White. Team White quickly replied with 3 unanswered goals in the 1st period. David Bolland tied the game at 18:19 of the 1st and Alexandre Picard gave Team White a 2-1 lead at 16:27 of the 1st period. At 5:28 of the first, Eric Fehr gave his team a two goal lead.
Team White did not miss a beat in the 2nd as defenceman Brent Seabrook gave his team a 4-1 lead at 13:15 of the 2nd period. Then, with less than a minute to go in the second, Kyle Chipchura notched a short-handed goal at 0:24, a crushing blow to Team Red who found themselves down 5-1 going into the final period. The third period featured much of the same as Team White sealed the victory with two more goals. Erich Fehr netted his second goal of the game at 6:39 of the third and Nigel Dawes scored a power-play goal at 2:52 of the third giving Team White the 7-1 victory.
After allowing the first goal of the game, goaltender Ryan Munce shut the door until midway through the second when Devan Dubnyk took over and shutout Team Red for the remainder of the game. In his first game action of the camp, Kevin Nastiuk suffered the loss.
