TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – PRINCE ALBERT MINTOS
For the second year in a row the Mintos edged out the Saskatoon Contacts for top spot in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, taking first place in 2012-13 thanks to their top-ranked offence and defence and two wins and a tie in four games against the Contacts. While Prince Albert just edged out Saskatoon for the league lead in goals, scoring 200 compared to 197 for the Contacts, it was the defence that was key – the Mintos allowed just 85 goals, less than two per game, and were 17 goals against better than Regina. Prince Albert’s dominance on ‘D’ showed in its goaltenders’ numbers – Lane Michasiw (1.71) and Tanner Burgardt (2.03) were second and fourth, respectively, in goals-against average, while the two finished three-four in save percentage (.921 and .919) and tied for second in the SMAAAHL with 17 wins apiece. Jason Duret led the scoring race for the Mintos, finishing with 67 points, while Lance Yaremchuk, Bryton Sayers, Justin Boyer and Kylar Hope also cracked the 50-point barrier, giving Prince Albert five of the league’s top 11 scorers.
