February 7, 2013

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Thursday it has finalized the coaching and support staff of Canada’s National Women’s Team for the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Ottawa, Ont., and the 2013-14 season, which will include centralization in Calgary and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Head coach Dan Church (Toronto, Ont./York University, CIS) will be joined by assistant coaches Danielle Goyette (St-Nazaire, Que./University of Calgary, CIS) and Lisa Haley (Westville, N.S./Ryerson University, CIS) for both the upcoming world championship and the 2013-14 season. Church and Goyette were named to Canada’s National Women’s Team coaching staff in February 2012. Both were behind the bench at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Burlington, Vt., helping Canada win gold.

Haley joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach last August, joining Canada’s National Women’s Team for the 2012 September Camp/Fall Festival and at the 2012 4 Nations Cup in Kerava and Tikkurila, Finland, last November. She will continue in this capacity through the 2013-14 season. Haley has coached in Canada’s National Women’s Program since 2004, as head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team and assistant coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team, Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team. Haley also supported the coaching staff at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship.

Hockey Canada also announced the support staff that will work with Canada’s National Women’s Team, including:

  • goaltending coach Matt Cockell (Winnipeg, Man./Hockey Canada);
  • video coach Kristopher Young (South Porcupine, Ont./Hockey Canada);
  • Dr. Wanda Millard (London, Ont./Hockey Canada);
  • mental skills coach Dr. Peter Jensen (Toronto, Ont./Hockey Canada);
  • therapist Karla Van Beveren (London, Ont./Hockey Canada);
  • massage therapist Domenic Manchisi (Oakville, Ont./Hockey Canada);
  • strength and conditioning coach Adam Douglas (Oakville, Ont./York University, CIS);
  • skating coach Marc Power (Ottawa, Ont./Ottawa, NHL).

“We are very excited to be naming this staff today, and have full confidence they will have our players ready to go when the puck drops in Sochi next February,” said Scott Smith, chief operating officer with Hockey Canada. “This group has a tremendous amount of experience through our women’s program, and we’re looking forward to working with them over the next year.”
