TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – WINNIPEG WILD
The Wild outlasted the Winnipeg Thrashers, their cross-town rivals and the defending national champions, to take top spot in the MMAAAHL, going 3-0-1 against the Thrashers and winning 14 of 15 overall after Jan. 1 to finish with a nine-point cushion atop the East Division and overall standings. Winnipeg went a remarkable 22-0 on home ice at the MTS Iceplex and scored a ridiculous 311 goals in 44 games. To put that in perspective, only one other team – the Thrashers – reached the 200-goal plateau. The Wild were no slouches in the defensive end either, allowing just 85 goals, the league’s second-best total. Geordie Maguire claimed the MMAAAHL scoring title, finishing four points up on teammate Remi Laurencelle, while goaltenders Ty Edmonds and Alex Moodie were third and fourth, respectively, in goals against average, both finishing with GAAs under 2.00.
