Hockey Canada asks Canadians to join the debate and pick their starting line-up from Canada’s National Junior Teams since 1982.

CALGARY, Alta. - In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence, Hockey Canada, in partnership with TELUS, is launching a fully integrated mobile web app at hockeycanadaevents.ca. The mobile web app is available now and allows hockey fans from coast to coast the opportunity to build their own Ultimate Team Canada Starting 6 and raise money to help local youth play hockey.

By entering your Starting 6 at hockeycanadaevents.ca, fans can help give young Canadians from coast to coast the opportunity to play hockey. Each time a fan makes their own Starting 6 selection, TELUS will give one dollar to the Hockey Canada Foundation, which helps make the dream to play hockey a reality for economically disadvantaged youth across Canada. In addition, if you share your Starting 6 on Facebook or Twitter, TELUS will give a toonie on your behalf*.

“TELUS is a proud and long-time supporter of Hockey Canada and we are excited to see some of the greatest hockey in the world played right here in Alberta at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship,” said Andrea Goertz, TELUS senior vice-president of strategic initiatives. “This exciting new mobile website will bring a unique and interactive element of this year’s tournament to hockey fans everywhere and, at the same time, raise funds to give our youth the chance to get active and play hockey in their communities.”

Over the past 30 years, Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence has brought home an amazing 15 gold medals from the IIHF World Junior Championship and fostered some of the greatest hockey talents to ever play the game. Now it’s time for Canadians to weigh-in and make the tough choices by deciding which six players make the cut for their Ultimate Team Canada Starting 6.

Hockey Canada president and CEO Bob Nicholson looks forward to seeing the results.

“We’ve had so many great players represent Canada at the World Juniors over the years that selecting a starting six will be very difficult,” said Nicholson. “This application is a fun way for Canadian hockey fans to celebrate the stars that have come through the Program of Excellence.”

Anyone can join in the Ultimate Team Canada Starting 6 debate at hockeycanadaevents.ca .
