Canada's National Sledge Team to Face Norway in Gold Medal Game of 2011 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in London, Ont.
LONDON, Ont. – Canada’s National Sledge Team will play Norway in the gold medal game of the 2011 World Sledge Hockey Challenge after four straight wins in preliminary round and semifinal action at the Western Fair Sports Centre.
Canada defeated Japan 11-1 in Friday’s late semifinal, while Norway edged the United States 5-4 in the early game. The teams face off for gold Saturday, April 23 starting at 2 p.m. ET, a game that will be aired at 6 p.m. ET on TSN2, Hockey Canada’s official broadcaster.
During preliminary round action earlier this week, Canada defeated the United States 3-1, blanked Norway 14-0 and beat Japan 12-0 to finish atop the standings. Norway edged Japan 7-6, fell to Canada 14-0 and lost to the United States 4-2 to finish in third place. The United States took second place, while Japan ended up in fourth at the end of the preliminary round.
The United States and Japan will play in the bronze medal game at 10 a.m. ET Saturday, which can be watched live online through FASTHockey at hockeycanada.fasthockey.com for $7.

Canada’s National Sledge Team took silver at the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Charlottetown, P.E.I., but won gold medals at the event in 2007 in Kelowna, B.C., and 2008 in Charlottetown, P.E.I. The four teams competing in London this week were the top four finishers at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C.
