Roster Announced for Canada East Evaluation Camp
The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), in partnership with Hockey Canada, has announced the evaluation camp roster for Canada East in preparation for the 2009 World Junior A Challenge. The evaluation camp is the first of three camps for Canada East and will take place at the Mat-Te-Way Arena in Renfrew, Ont. on August 15.
The one-day evaluation camp, hosted by the Central Junior Hockey League (CJHL), will include 21 players from the CJHL, 22 from the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League and 21 from the Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Québec. In total, three games will be played between the participating players.

Prior to the evaluation camp, the Central Junior Hockey League will host an inter-squad game at the Mat-Te-Way Arena in Renfrew at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14. The game will be open to the public for a $2 admission charge.
Canada East will hold three separate evaluation camps for the five eastern CJHL leagues (OJHL, NOJHL, CJHL, LHJAAAQ, MJAHL). The second camp will be hosted by the Ontario Hockey Association on August 22 in Richmond Hill, Ont. (OJHL players) and a final camp hosted by the Halifax Lions will be held on August 23 for MJAHL players. Details and rosters for the remaining two camps will be available shortly.
"The evaluation camps throughout Eastern Canada provide a great opportunity for our staff to view over 100 players and at the same time helps us to promote the 2009 World Junior A Challenge and Team Canada East,” says Canada East general manager Marty Abrams.
Canada East has also announced the appointment of Jack Ferguson to the position of head scout. Ferguson was formerly the director of OHL Central Scouting. His significant contributions to the Ontario Hockey League resulted in the Jack Ferguson Trophy, an award presented to the player selected first overall in the OHL Priority Selection. Ferguson was also a scout for the Washington Capitals and has a great deal of experience in Eastern Canada. His ability to evaluate players will be an amazing resource in helping general manager Marty Abrams and head coach Todd Gill assemble Canada East.
Summerside, P.E.I. will host the 2009 World Junior A Challenge from November 1-8, 2009 at Credit Union Centre. The 2009 World Junior A Challenge will follow the same format as previous years – two Canadian entries will be joined by four international teams. Canada East captured the bronze medal in 2008, the first time in three years that it failed to reach the gold medal game.
