The 2009 TELUS Cup host committee today announced that National Hockey League player agent Don Baizley will be the keynote speaker at the tournament’s awards banquet.

The Winnipeg product will speak at the banquet on Friday, April 24 following the conclusion of the round-robin portion of the National Midget Championship. The event is slated for the Selkirk Recreation Complex, April 20-26.

Baizley has practiced law in Winnipeg since his call to the Bar in 1967. As part of his law practice he has represented professional athletes since 1972. However, for the past 12 years he has almost exclusively channeled his practice to representing professional hockey players.

To date, his client list includes current NHLers Niklas Bäckström, Brett Clark, Tobias Enstrom, Niklas Hagman, Paul Kariya, Mikko Koivu, Saku Koivu, Jere Lehtinen, Patrick Marleau, Markus Naslund, Robert Nilsson, Teppo Numminen, Ville Peltonen, Jarkko Ruutu, Joe Sakic, Teemu Selanne, Alex Steen, Jeff Tambellini and Vesa Toskala.

Moreover, he also represents former NHLers Theoren Fleury, Peter Forsberg, Anders Hedberg, Jari Kurri, Igor Larionov, Larry Murphy, Kent Nilsson, Ulf Nilsson and Thomas Steen.

Aside from being an active in the community, Baizley also served as the past president and life bencher of the Law Society of Manitoba and is a member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame – he was inducted in 2007 as a builder.

“This is a boon for our banquet and for all the players participating in this year’s TELUS Cup,” said Rob Cox, chair of the 2009 TELUS Cup host committee. “Mr. Baizley’s experience in the game and knowledge of the business of hockey should provide some terrific insight and guidance for those players looking to further their careers in junior, college or as professionals.”

Tickets for the banquet are just $40 and can be obtained through Jean Oliver at (204) 482-3113 or [email protected].
