REGINA, Sask. – Representatives of Hockey Canada and the 2010 host organizing committee announced the final game schedule for the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship on Wednesday. The 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship will include a total of 31 games, with 21 games in Saskatoon and 10 in Regina.

"It’s always exciting when the schedule is set," said Jack Brodsky, president of the 2010 WJC host organizing committee. "Fans immediately start to pore over the match-ups and make predictions. Every game is so important, and afterwards fans will want to be able to say ‘I was there.’"

“This event is becoming more and more competitive with every country’s junior program getting stronger and stronger,” said Bob Nicholson, Hockey Canada’s president and CEO. “Both pools feature some extremely interesting match-ups which will make for outstanding hockey games right from day one.”

The IIHF World Junior Championship attracts sold-out arenas in Canada and secures television ratings that consistently rank as among TSN and RDS’s most-viewed broadcasts.

The 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship will open in Regina on Saturday, December 26 with two-time defending silver medalist Sweden facing the Czech Republic at 1 p.m. CT. The Regina group includes four of the top hockey nations in the world in the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and Sweden, along with Austria, which qualified by defeating Germany in the Division IA IIHF World Junior Championship last year.

Meanwhile, Canada’s National Junior Team will open its quest for a sixth-consecutive World Junior gold medal on Saturday, December 26 in Saskatoon against Latvia at 3 p.m. CT. Canada faces Switzerland on December 28, Slovakia on December 29 and closes out the preliminary round against the United States on New Year’s Eve, December 31.

The Saskatoon group includes defending-champion Canada, along with Latvia, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States. The medal games and relegation-round games will be in Saskatoon from January 2-5.

Tickets for the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship are available through Ticketmaster, either at ticketmaster.ca, 1-800-970-SEAT, or any Ticketmaster outlet. At this time, only full-tournament ticket packages are available.

Saskatoon’s 21-game package includes round-robin games featuring Canada’s National Junior Team, the relegation round and all medal-round games between $758 and $1,178 per seat.

Regina’s 12-game package includes two pre-competition games featuring Canada’s National Junior Team (dates and opponents to be announced at a later date) and 10 round-robin games from $383 to $443 per seat. There is also an optional ticket package with limited availability that includes the Regina 12-game package and the relegation round and medal round in Saskatoon for a total of 23 games at $1,092 plus applicable service charges.
