CALGARY, AB – Canada’s world championship hockey teams will be honoured in Calgary at the annual Canadian Hockey Foundation Celebrity Classic gala dinner on June 23rd and at the celebrity golf tournament on June 24th.

The annual event returns to Calgary for the second time after being held in the city in 2007. Three teams – Canada’s National Junior Team, National Men’s Under-18 Team and National Sledge Team – will be honoured at the event, as all three teams claimed gold medals at their respective world championships during the 2007-08 season.

The gala fundraising dinner will be held at the TELUS Convention Centre on Monday, June 23rd. As part of the festivities, Hockey Canada will pay tribute to Bill Hay and the late Ed Chynoweth for their outstanding contributions to hockey development in Canada. Many Hockey Canada alumni and other celebrities will be in attendance at the event, which will be hosted by Gord Miller of TSN. Other gala highlights include live and silent auctions, a hotstove session hosted by Ryan Walter featuring some notable Team Canada alumni, ring presentations to Canada’s world champions, and a special performance by Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo.

The celebrity golf tournament will be held the next day, Tuesday, June 24th at Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club, a world-class venue located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains southwest of Calgary. Each golf foursome will joined by a Hockey Canada celebrity.

The Canadian Hockey Foundation hopes to build on the success of last year’s event which resulted in over $500,000 being raised and contributed to its endowment program. To date, the CHF has committed over $2 million in grants to Hockey Canada to support the development and execution of leading edge initiatives aimed at celebrating our hockey heritage, continuing our winning tradition on the international stage, and helping create an even more promising future for our game. The CHF works directly with Hockey Canada to select projects aligned within our funding focus areas of skill development and qualified coaching, accessibility and diversity, athlete and alumni support, health and wellness and next generation programming.
