Since becoming a member of the Prince George Spruce Kings on January 10th, Tyler Helfrich has been turning heads around the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). This week the BCHL recognized Helfrich for his contributions to the Prince George Spruce Kings by spot lighting the 19 year old in their "Feature Player" section calling Helfrich an "impact player."

Tyler Helfrich played last season and the first half of this season with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) where he helped lead his team to the provincial championship and a birth into the Doyle Cup. The Oil Barons would ultimately lose to the Burnaby Express, who went onto to win the 2006 RBC Royal Bank Cup held in Streetsville Ontario.

The experience of winning the AJHL championship has seemingly sparked Tyler Helfrich to play hard every night and, in fifteen games with the Spruce Kings, scored 14 goals and added 15 assists. With an average of 2 points a game, Helfrich could have been a serious candidate for the league scoring title. Helfrich now has his sights set on helping the Spruce Kings get as deep into the playoffs as they can go enroute to the RBC Royal Bank Cup in May.

"We want to earn the right to play in the RBC not just show up as the host team," says Spruce Kings forward, Tyler Helfrich. "The goal is to play hard right through to the tournament and win it all; I want to win a championship, that's what I came here for."
