Ticket Information announced for 2007 TELUS Cup

Red Deer – The 2007 TELUS Cup Host Committee announced on Friday that tournament passes for the event will go on sale to the general public on . The TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Hockey Championship, has been an annual event since 1974 and is the only recognized national championship for minor hockey in Canada.

The tournament passes, which include all round robin and playoff games, including the championship game, will sell for $69.00.

The 2007 TELUS Cup Host Committee would also like to announce that both the Red Deer Rebels and the Sutter Foundation have come on board as major local supporters for this event.

“The excitement of the TELUS Cup coming to Red Deer has the Host Committee firing on all cylinders and excited to move forward in producing the best ever TELUS Cup tournament next April 23-29,” stated Red Deer Minor Hockey Association president Graham Moore.

“Hockey Alberta’s Board of Directors and staff are excited that this event will be coming to Central Alberta. Red Deer has a very rich and successful history in Midget hockey and it is only fitting that they have a chance to host this prestigious minor hockey event. Hockey Alberta is looking to be active partners in the event in our Centennial year, celebrating and making hockey history in Red Deer at the 2007 TELUS Cup,”stated Terry Engen, Hockey Alberta president.

Red Deer is no stranger to hosting national events, having played host to the 1994 Brier (national men’s curling championship), 1995 World Junior Hockey Championship, 1998 Alberta Winter Games, 2004 Scott Tournament of Hearts (national women’s curling championship) and 2006 Alberta Summer Games.

Having showcased their talents in the National Midget AAA Championship, many former players have gone on to have outstanding careers in junior hockey and the professional ranks. Team Canada 20 Olympic stars such as Simon Gagné and Joe Sakic have competed in this event, as did current NHL star and 20 National Junior Team member Sidney Crosby.
