CALGARY – Forty four of Canada’s top junior aged players (born or later) will hit the ice in Calgary at the Father David Bauer Arena on Sunday, July 23rd through to Friday, July 28th as the National Junior Team Development Camp gets under way.
The breakdown of the 44 players is as follows: four (4) goaltenders, sixteen (16) defencemen, and twenty-four (24) forwards. Forty-one of the 44 players played in the CHL last season, 15 in the OHL, 14 in the WHL, and 12 in the QMJHL, while three players played in the NCAA. The Development Camp roster features 19 NHL first round draft picks, and 40 of the 44 players have been drafted by an NHL club.
Under the direction of Head Coach Craig Hartsburg (Sault Ste. Marie, OHL) and assistant coaches Clément Jodoin (Lewiston, QMJHL) and Curtis Hunt (WHL), the 44 players have been divided into red and white teams and will practice separately throughout the six days, and will take part in three Red vs. White intrasquad games. The coaches will be assisted in the player evaluation by Hockey Canada Head Scout of Men’s National Teams, Jim Hammett.

The 2007 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship will be held in Leksand and Mora, Sweden from through .
The National Junior Team Development Camp is the first step in a process that Hockey Canada follows to name Canada’s National Junior Team roster in December. Following this July camp, Hockey Canada’s Men’s National Teams Program will continue to monitor and evaluate these players and other eligible players in the Canadian Hockey League, as well as in the junior and college ranks in Canada and the U.S.A.
In late November or early December, Hockey Canada will invite a shorter list of players to the National Junior Team Selection Camp which takes place in mid-December. During the December Selection Camp, the coaching staff will select the 22 players that will represent Canada at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship.
