CALGARY – Hockey Canada and the Boston Bruins announced on Thursday that Canada’s Men’s National Team Head Coach Marc Habscheid has signed with the Boston Bruins as an Associate Coach. Habscheid will join the Bruins and begin his new duties immediately, and joins Bruins Head Coach Dave Lewis, who was an assistant to Habscheid at the 2005 Spengler Cup in Davos, SUI.
Habscheid has been with Hockey Canada since June of 2004, when he signed a three year contract as Canada’s Men’s National Team Head Coach. During the 2004--06 seasons, Habscheid coached the Men’s National Team at two Lotto Cups, two Spengler Cups, two Deutchland Cups, Hungarian Cup, and two IIHF Men’s World Championships – including winning silver in 2005.
Habscheid was also an Associate coach for Team Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games and a member of the coaching staff for Canada’s 2004 World Cup of Hockey Championship Team.
“We are very excited for Marc as he takes his next step in his coaching career”, stated Hockey Canada President, Bob Nicholson. “On behalf of Hockey Canada, we would like to thank Marc for his dedication to Canada’s Men’s National Team program over the past three years and we wish him continued success with the Bruins organization.”
