“The Prince Edward Island Hockey Association is pleased to be the host branch of the 2006 TELUS Cup Midget Championship. As this is the first time that PEI has hosted this National Midget Championship tournament, we are excited about bringing the best Midget age players in the country together and look forward to an excellent tournament. The host committee has done a wonderful job of planning and organizing this event. We are indeed fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers. I am absolutely certain that this will be an outstanding tournament,” stated Wendall Shaw, President of the PEIHA.
Having showcased their talents in the National Midget AAA competition, many former players go on to have outstanding careers in junior hockey and professional leagues. Team Canada’s 2002 Olympic stars such as Simon Gagné and Joe Sakic both competed in this Championship as has current NHL star and 2005 National Junior Team member Sidney Crosby.
TELUS' Atlantic Canadian business Development Manager, Brian Johnstone, says he is "extremely proud of TELUS' commitment to becoming Canada's premier corporate citizen and to be associated with Hockey Canada's National Midget AAA Hockey Championship, the TELUS Cup, here in Charlottetown. The sport of hockey is extremely important to Atlantic Canadians and this is another demonstration of TELUS' strong commitment to the development of Canada's amateur athletes.
I look forward to watching the next Brad Richard's in April 2006."
