KELOWNA, BC – Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson today confirmed the details of the exhibition game scheduled for December 20th in Kelowna in preparation for the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship - Team Canada will meet the Czech Republic at Prospera Place in Kelowna at 7:00 PM.

“Upon announcing in April that Kelowna would host an exhibition game prior the tournament itself, we knew that the city would be excited. Today we’re pleased to know that the local organizing committee here in Kelowna is working diligently to ensure the event is a success, and rest assured that this community will provide a warm-welcome to the best young hockey players from both Team Canada and Czech Republic for this game,” said Bob Nicholson, President Hockey Canada.

“The announcement of this exhibition game between Team Canada and the Czech Republic is certain to raise the excitement and enthusiasm of Kelowna area hockey fans. The game itself will provide those fans with tickets for the tournament a chance to see Canada’s best young hockey players right here at home,” said Bruce Hamilton, Co-Chair of the Kelowna Organizing Committee.

Very few ticket packages still remain for the five preliminary round games scheduled to be held in Kelowna from December 26th through 31st, 2005. Ticket packages for Kelowna which include all six games including the Team Canada pre-competition exhibition game can be purchased via Select Your Tickets @ 250-762-5050 or on-line at www.hockeycanada.ca

The 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship in Kamloops, Kelowna and Vancouver will mark the seventh time that this international event has been staged in Canada and the first time it will be held in British Columbia. Other years in which Canada hosted this Championship were in 2003 (Halifax, NS), 1999 (Winnipeg, MB), 1995 (Red Deer, AB), 1991 (Saskatoon, SK), 1986 (Hamilton, ON), and 1978 (Montreal, QC). Grand Forks, North Dakota hosted the event in 2005.

The 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship Organizing Committee is committed to delivering a spectacular celebration of the world’s best amateur hockey players. We will elevate our community spirit and showcase Canadian hospitality and pride. Our success will create a lasting legacy for Canadian amateur hockey through Hockey Canada, the Canadian Hockey League and minor hockey branches across the country and will demonstrate our ability to host elite international events.
