LAKE PLACID, NY – Canada’s National Women’s Team is preparing for the Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, NY on November 10-14. Team Canada will meet in Montreal, QC on November 7, and will face Finland in an exhibition game in Sherbrooke, QC at the Palais des Sport on Monday, November 8 at 7:30pm (free admission).
Sherbrooke, QC is the hometown of National Women’s Team young star, Sarah Vaillancourt. Sarah, who will be participating in her second Four Nations Cup, is currently playing in her first season at Harvard University in Boston, MA. Fans will get a chance to skate with Sarah and other National Women’s Team players during the “Skate with the Champions” which will be held after practice on Monday, November 8 at the Palais des Sport in Sherbrooke from 11-11:30am.
Canada will play three games leading up to the gold medal game on November 14 which includes a round robin game versus the USA in Burlington, Vermont on November 11. The red and white and will be looking to recapture the Four Nations title after losing in last year’s final in Skovde, Sweden to the USA in a shoot-out. The only other time Canada has failed to win the event was when it was held in Lake Placid in 1997, again losing to the USA.
Team Canada will feature ten Olympic gold medalists, and three rookie players to the senior team. Meghan Agosta, Tessa Bonhomme, and Katie Weatherston will all be making their National Team debuts in Lake Placid. These three players are products of the National Under-22 team that won the Air Canada Cup in Bad Tolz, Germany last February.
