CALGARY, AB - Canada's National Men's Team has captured the 2002 Deutschland Cup with a perfect 3-0 record, after defeating Germany 2-0 on Sunday in Hannover, Germany, in front of 7180 fans at the Preussag Arena.

Canada's entry for the Deutschland Cup was coached by Gary Green. Canada's victory marks the second time Canada has captured this event, having won for the first time in 2000. Canada finished third at last year's Deutschland Cup.

Calgary Flames' prospect Micki Dupont (Calgary, AB) and former Canadian Olympian Todd Hlushko (Toronto, ON) scored for Canada which finished the event with a perfect 3-0 record. Ian Gordon (North Battleford, SK) registered the shutout, making 24 saves for the victory. Canada outshot Germany 29-24.

Canada's National Men's Team for international events such as the Deutschland Cup is comprised of Canadians either currently playing in Europe or in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Germany's National Team at the Deutschland Cup included 10 players from their Men's 2002 Olympic Team, which Canada defeated 3-2 at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The team will be traveling on Monday, November 11, returning to their club teams in Europe or in North America.
