Canada's National Under 18 Summer Team Returns Home Monday After Capturing a Gold Medal at Six Nations Under 18 Cup in The Czech Republic

KOLIN, CZECH REPUBLIC - Canada's National Under 18 Summer Team captured a gold medal at the Six Nations Under 18 Cup after defeating Russia 9-4 in the final game of the tournament. Canada has now captured eight gold medals in eleven years at a Summer Under 18 Tournament, including six consecutive gold medals between 19 and five consecutive gold medals at this particular Under 18 event.

The Czech Republic captured the silver medal, while Russia finished with a bronze medal.

Rick Nash, of Brampton, ON paced Canada with three goals and two assists, while Pierre-Marc Bouchard, of Boucherville, QC added two goals and two assists, handing Russia its first loss of the tournament. Canada finished the tournament with a 4 win, 1 loss record. Game details, including a complete game summary and Canada's roster, is posted on the CHA's official website at www.canadianhockey.ca

All Team Canada's players and staff, including head coach George Burnett (Oshawa, OHL) and assistant coaches Jim Hulton (Guelph, OHL) and Guy Lalonde (Hull, QMJHL) will be returning to Canada on Monday, , via Toronto's Pearson Airport, Terminal 1 at 1:15pm ET on Air Canada flight 883 from Copenhagen.

After arriving in Toronto on Aug.20 at 1:15pm ET, players and staff will be connecting to various flights that will take them back to their final destination. Most players and staff will be available for interviews at Terminal 1, depending upon the connecting flight schedules out of Toronto.

An itinerary of the players' final destinations is not available at this time.

The 2001 National Under 18 Summer Team is comprised entirely of players born in 1984. The Under 18 National team is part of a three stage Program of Excellence beginning with the under 17 regional teams and ending with the World Junior team. The primary objectives of the under 18 program are to identify, evaluate and condition players to the rigours of international competition by giving them their first exposure to international hockey, international officiating, larger ice surfaces, and travel.

This season, the Under 18 Summer Team represents a first step in preparation for Canada's participation in the 2002 IIHF World Under 18 Hockey Championship next April in Slovakia.

Canada's National Under 18 Summer Team arrives from Copenhagen on , Air Canada flight 883, which is scheduled to arrive in Toronto, ON (Pearson, Terminal 1 at 1:15 PM (ET).
