FRIDAY, APRIL 26: FINAL ESSO CUP REFLECTIONS

by Mikayla Ogrodniczuk (#16)

We set our goal. We worked hard to prepare ourselves to reach our goal. We fought hard … but we fell short. Yet, in so many other ways, we won.

Our 2013 Esso Cup experience is something that we will remember fondly for the rest of our lives. We learned that Canada has amazing female hockey teams and players. We played against the best in Canada, and learned so much from them. We learned what it takes to compete at the elite level of female major Midget hockey. We learned to be good ambassadors of B.C. female hockey. We learned about defeat and victory. And we learned that we want more!

It’s funny … although we had intense battles with the girls on the other teams at the Esso Cup, we feel that we have a special bond with them – a bond formed by our mutual love of hockey, our common objective, and the passion we shared on the ice.

We hope that the players who depart from Burnaby and the 2013 Esso Cup, regardless of their team’s outcome, will leave with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and satisfaction. Our lives have been enriched by sharing the Esso Cup experience with them, and we hope they feel the same.
