QUEBEC TO MEET USA IN GOLD MEDAL GAME

By Keith Borkowsky

REGINA — Last year, Quebec finished ninth at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. That is ancient history after a 2-1 semifinal win over the Czech Republic Tuesday.

La Belle Province has now earned a chance to play the USA in the gold medal game Wednesday in Regina at 7 p.m.

Quebec gave itself the early lead when Jean-Simon Allard scored a power-play marker at the 15:23 mark of the first period. Assists went to Yann Sauve and Maxime Macenaurer.

Michael Stinziani padded Quebec’s lead 4:16 into the second, assisted by Angelo Esposito and Alexander Kilorn.

Czech forward Jakub Maxa cut Quebec’s lead to one 2:19 in the third period, assisted by Tomas Karpov and Jan Maruna.

Czech Republic meets Pacific in the bronze medal game Wednesday in Regina at 3 p.m.
