AMERICANS HAND ONTARIO IT'S SECOND LOSS

REGINA – Ontario has found a way to score goals — they just haven’t found the win column yet.

Friday in Moose Jaw, Ontario suffered a 7-5 loss to the United States. It is Ontario’s second-straight loss despite having scored five goals in both contests.

A three-goal second-period outburst gave the United States a big advantage heading into the third period.

The Americans opened the scoring 2:25 into the game when James van Riemsdyk cashed in a scoring chance.

Ontario’s Chris Terry responded with a goal of his own at the 13:38 mark.

Both teams exchanged goals midway through the second period. Defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk gave the US a 2-1 lead. Ontario’s Logan Couture added his fourth goal of the tournament to tie the game at two.

The Americans then took a two-goal advantage into the second intermission. Colin Wilson scored his first, and John Albert chipped in a late power-play goal.

Both teams traded goals in the third period. Drew Doughty and Marcus Carroll scored their first goals of the tournament for Ontario, while Sam Gagner chipped in his third goal.

For the Americans, Shattenkirk and Wilson picked up their second goals of the night in the third period, while Teddy Ruth scored his first of the tournament.

The United States (1-0) plays Slovakia (0-2) in Milestone on Saturday at 5 p.m. Ontario (0-2) has a Saturday bye, and meets Slovakia Sunday at 7:30 in Regina.
