2006 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Germany 3 – Czech Republic 5

GERMANY'S ÜBER-SNIPER NETS THREE AGAINST CZECHS IN LOSS

By Keith Borkowsky

REGINA – Germany’s Alexander Oblinger has become the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge’s first uber-sniper in a 5-3 loss to’ the Czech Republic on Thursday.

Oblinger scored the first hat trick of the week in Germany’s opening round robin game in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. His linemate, Andre Huebscher picked up three assists.

The Czechs led for most of the contest, though Germany grabbed a brief 3-2 lead late in the second period.

A successful five-on-three penalty kill in the third period gave the Czechs all they needed to keep their two-goal advantage.

Alexander Polodna scored a pair of goals, and chipped in an assist for the Czechs. Roman Szturc scored once and assisted twice.

German goalie Timo Pielmeier’s play was crucial in giving them a chance to win.

Germany has a bye on Friday. The Czech Republic plays Finland at the Brandt Centre at 3 p.m.
