CZECH REPUBLIC EDGES ATLANTIC OUT OF MEDAL ROUND WITH DRAW

REGINA — Atlantic has Czeched out of the medal round. A 5-5 draw with the Czech Republic in Moose Jaw at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge gave the Czechs the final Pool B medal round spot.
Atlantic took a 1-0 lead on Randy Cameron’s first goal of the week.
The Czech Republic took a 2-1 lead, thanks to scoring plays from Jaroslav Herti and Petr Kafka midway through the period.
Atlantic tied the score late in the period with Logan MacMillan’s second goal of the tournament.
Tomas Karpov’s first goal put the Czechs up 3-2 early in the second period. Tomas Hajek padded the lead to 4-2, finding the net for his second goal of the tournament at the 14:09 mark.
Atlantic’s Brad Malone cut the Czech lead to one with a late second period power-play goal at the 17:19 mark.
The Czechs took a 5-3 lead when Karpov added his second of the night early in the third frame.
But the East Coasters tied it up with a goal from MacMillan 9:50 into the period, and a power-play marker from Stephen Lund at the 12:14 mark.
Atlantic will meet Ontario in a placement round match in Weyburn at 7 p.m. The Czechs earned a semifinal match with Quebec in Moose Jaw 7:30 p.m.
