2013 World Sport School Challenge

Germany 1 - Czech Republic 4

JENYS SCORES TWICE AS THE CZECHS STAY UNBEATEN AT WSSC WITH 4-1 WIN OVER GERMANY

CALGARY, Alta. –  Pavel Jenys scored twice, Jiri Smejkal grabbed one goal and one assist and Vitek Vanek made 32 saves as the Czech Republic stays unbeaten at the World Sport School Challenge with a 4-1 victory of Germany in an all-European Prep Division match-up on Saturday.

Germany goaltender Daniel Fiessinger was sensational in the opening period, kicking aside 15-of-16 shots faced with the only puck getting by him off the stick of Czech forward Jiri Smejkal that gave the Czechs a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

It was Czech goaltender Vitek Vanek’s turn to stand on his head in the middle stanza, stopping 17-of-18 shots that came his way. Jenys made it 2-0 early in the period, but Stefan Loibl would put Germany on the board shortly after on a power-play marker to make it 2-1. The Czechs would add a power-play goal of their own late in the third period as Lukáš Vopelka  found the back of the net to give Czech Republic a 3-1 lead after two periods.

The Czechs pulled away in the third period as Jenys bagged his second goal of the game 5:58 into the third period to make it a 4-1 game and Vanek shut the door the rest of the way, handing Germany their second straight loss at the WSSC.

Czech Republic looks to stay unbeaten as they will face-off with the Banff Hockey Academy in the first Prep Division game on Sunday, while Germany will look to hit the win column for the first time at the WSSC with an afternoon game against Shattuck-St. Mary’s on Day 3.
