CAMPBELL GETS SHOOTOUT WINNER AS BLACK EARNS COMEBACK WIN

TORONTO, Ont. – Colin Campbell (Batesman, N.S./Yarmouth, MHL) scored the winner in the sixth round of the shootout as Black scored a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Gold in the Canada East selection camp opener on Monday night.

Black trailed 3-1 with less than three minutes to go before late goals from Jonah Renouf (Mississauga, Ont./Oakville, OJHL) and Justin Danforth (Oshawa, Ont./Cobourg, OJHL) – with 42 seconds remaining – forced extra time.

After the teams each scored twice on their opening five shots, Chris Maniccia (St. Catharines, Ont./Smiths Falls, CCHL) was turned aside by Black netminder Anderson Snair (Halifax, N.S./Metro, MHL), setting the stage for Campbell’s winner.

Michael Neville (Woodbridge, Ont./St. Michael’s, OJHL) had the other goal in regulation for Black, which was outshot 29-27 overall. Michael Pontarelli (Laval, Que./Cornwall, CCHL) and Jake Evans (Toronto, Ont./St. Michael’s, OJHL) joined Campbell as shootout scorers.

Bradley Bell (Sudbury, Ont./Sudbury, NOJHL), Brent Norris (Ottawa, Ont./Nepean, CCHL) and Daniel Tedesco (Maple, Ont./Toronto Lakeshore, OJHL) had goals for Gold in the first 60 minutes. Tedesco and Blaine Byron (Manotick, Ont./Kemptville, CCHL) added shootout markers.

All four goaltenders in camp saw action – Snair replaced Max Smith (Amos, Que./Terrebonne, LHJAAAQ) midway through the second period for Black, while Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, B.C./Kingston, OJHL) and Daniel Mannella (Woodbridge, Ont./Georgetown, OJHL) split the duties for Gold.

Gold will look to bounce back against Green on Tuesday night at the MasterCard Centre (7 p.m. ET), while Black will go for a sweep of the intrasquad games against Green in Wednesday’s camp finale (6:30 p.m. ET).
