Yorkton Terriers (WEST) 4 - C.R. Joliette Action (EAST) 1 Round Robin By HockeyCanada.ca The number one ranked Yorkton Terriers picked up their first win of the tournament defeating L’Action de Joliette 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Terriers speed and aggression and their ability to finish made the difference in this game. Yorkton opening the scoring midway through the first thanks to the forechecking of Derek Serdachny, Scott Woytas and Chad Nehring. After beating the Joliette defenceman to the puck, Woytas made a nice centering pass to Serdachny who buried it past Joliette goaltender Steve Hartley. Yorton took a two goal lead on a nice individual play by Chris Korchinshki, Yorkton’s leading goal scorer during the regular season. While shorthanded, Korchinski stripped the Joliette defenceman of the puck and scored on a breakaway beating Hartley low stick side. Yorkton opened up a three goal lead with just 12 seconds remaining in the first period when Dustin Nehring rifled a point shot past a screened Hartley high blocker side. “All year our forwards have been crashing the net and the goalie just didn’t get to see much. That has led to our defencemen being able to score.” Yorkton also did a great job in pressuring Joliette while shorthanded and as a result Joliette could not generate any flow with the man advantage. Joliette finished the night 0-5 on the power-play. “They like to go up the middle and have breakaway speed so we just came out and started hitting trying to force the play and get them of their game” said Korchinski. After a few miscues set them back in the first, Joliette grew stronger as the game went on. Joliette missed a few golden opportunities to narrow the lead. Early in the first Joel Laliberte fired it over the open cage after a nice give and go from Sebastien Gauthier. Late in the second, Joliette managed to get a few shots from in close, but Bothwell was equal to the task. Joliette finally beat Bothwell when Alexandre Lamarche banged home a rebound at 3:59 of the third. Justin Nehring capped off the scoring for Yorkton, with his second goal of the game, another howitzer from the point which beat Hartley top shelf.
