Lesson Plans

The lessons provided in this package have been put together on a voluntary basis by Canadian teachers to help students and fellow educators draw attention to female sport, particularly Canadian Women’s Ice Hockey, and the 2013 IIHF Women’s World Ice Hockey Championship being hosted in Ottawa, April 2013. It is our hope that you find something useful to help educate, foster an interest in one of our official national sports, and build excitement for this international event

A Message from the Principal of Cole Harbour District High School

The teachers, administrators and students of Cole Harbour District High School in Nova Scotia are excited to partner with

Hockey Canada, the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association, and the Ottawa Senators in the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Women's Championship experience. Creating and implementing cross-curricular lessons to engage our students in meeting course outcomes through the theme of hockey has fostered a climate of fun in our school and learning environments.  Through history, dance, career exploration, geography, mathematics, visual art, and multi-media technology we are proud to be contributors to furthering the development of and support for women's sport in Canada and around the world.

It has been a wonderful learning experience for our students and community and we hope that our contribution will foster your engagement and interest.

To be a true Canadian, one must have hockey at heart and if there is a topic that brings a spirit and a high level of engagement…it's hockey, in Canada. We invite you to become engaged in the IIHF Ice Hockey World Women's Championship and bring excitement to learning.
