Without the thousands of coaches who volunteer their time and step behind the bench every season, there would be no hockey in Canada. So just how can you become a coach? How can you become certified? How can you work with other coaches to become a better coach?
Hockey Canada’s National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) is a competency-based program. The program enables coaches to build their coaching tools and knowledge of the game, so they can work effectively with their players. Coaches enter into a ‘stream’ of coaching by taking part in clinics that are relative to the athletes that they are working with.
The following chart is a snapshot of a coaches’ pathway through the coaching system that outlines what is available and required at each age level in the minor hockey system
