Financially, the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014 has been a successful one for Hockey Canada. As was the case in previous years, Hockey Canada continues to benefit from very strong partnerships at both the federal and provincial levels of government. Federally, it continues to benefit from the Own the Podium program, support from which helped Canada defend its men’s and women’s hockey gold medals at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Olympic success, in turn, has meant ancillary benefits, including increased royalties, the attractiveness of the Hockey Canada logo, the desire for sponsors to associate with Hockey Canada, and hard benefits such as prize money. In addition, Sport Canada has approved Hockey Canada for a four-year funding window under the Sport Funding and Accountability Framework, while a three-year deal has been reached with the Government of Alberta to provide financial support through June 30, 2016.
