Team Summary/Sommaire d'Équipe

Did you know?

…that Cammi Granato (USA) has a brother, Tony, who coaches the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL

Coach Ben Smith is back behind the Americans' bench, and he brings with him a team capable of winning gold and almost assured of at least a silver. Eleven players are from the team that lost to Canada 3-2 at the Olympics two years ago, and 16 players were on the U.S. team that defeated Canada in the finals of the Four Nations Cup in Sweden late in 2003. In goal, Smith will rely on Pam Dreyer and Chanda Gunn. It was Dreyer who stopped all eleven Canadian shots in the dramatic shootout in the Four Nations Cup, and Gunn is a star at Northeastern University. On defence is veteran Angela Ruggiero and Four Nations players Kim Insalaco, Julianne Vasichek, and Kerry Weiland, as well as rookies Kelli Halcisak and Molly Engstrom. Insalaco, a forward for the Oakville Ice in the NWHL, will make her debut on defence for USA in Halifax. The forwards for Team USA include a veteran contingent: Julie Chu, Natalie Darwitz, Tricia Dunn, Cammi Granato, Kathleen Kauth, Katie King, Kristin King, Shelley Looney, Jenny Potter, Kelly Stephens, and Krissy Wendell, all members of the Four Nations Cup team. The final forward is Andrea Kilbourne, a member of the team from the 2002 Olympics.
