TEAM RED SQUEEZES OUT A 5-4 VICTORY OVER TEAM WHITE

OTTAWA – Team Red avenged their first loss against Team White and came out with an impressive 5-4 win in a see-saw battle.

Team Red came out of the gate flying as they scored three early goals to give themselves a solid cushion by the half way mark of the first.

Jennifer Hitchcock (La Salle, ON), Mandi Schwartz (Wilcox, SK) and Amanda Shaw (St. Thomas, ON) all scored for Team Red in a five minute span to give them a commanding 3-0 lead.

But Team White had no intentions of giving Team Red and easy victory and responded with two first period goals of their own.

Bobbi Ross (Verwood, SK) and Dominique Thibault (L’Orignal, ON) scored 23 seconds apart with four minutes remaining in the opening period to close the gap to within one, but trailed 3-2.

Sabrina Harbec (Montreal, QC) snuck one through the five hole to put Team Red up 4-2, but again Team White responded less than a minute later when Dominique Thibault notched her second goal of the period.

Team Red took a 4-3 in to the third, before Courtney Sawchuk (Sherwood Park, AB) added a powerplay goal, to go along with her two assists, to tie things up at 4-4.

The game winner came of the stick of Jennifer Hitchcock, adding her second of the game, on a two player advantage as she jumped on a rebound and buried one past Laura Hosier (Sharon, ON) who came on in relief half way through the game.
