Team USA sweeps Under 22 exhibition series

Team USA defeated Canada’s National Women’s Under 22 Team  3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the University of Vermont.  The victory provided the Americans with a sweep of a three game exhibition series.

Ashley Riggs of Pickering, ON opened the scoring for Canada early in the first.  Sarah Parsons replied for Team USA on a powerplay mid way through the period.   Team Canada had a solid start to the middle frame with Ashley Riggs scoring her second of the game on an unassisted effort to provide a 2-1 lead.  Team USA tied the score when Jessica Koizumi beat Brittony Chartier low to the glove side on a nice passing play at 11:27.

The Americans took a 3-2 lead that they did not relinquish when Sonny Watrous scored on a goalmouth scramble at 1:38 of the third period.  Team Canada outshot Team USA 16-15 in the game.

The next game action for the Canadian Under 22 team will be in early February at the German Air Canada Cup competition.
