POULIN’S THREE POINTS LEAD WHITE TO WIN OVER ROYALS

CALGARY, Alta. – Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que./Boston University, HE) scored twice and added an assist to pace the offence as White bounced back from an opening-game loss to Red to knock off the Calgary Royals Midget AAA boys team 6-4 on Thursday night at Canada’s National Women’s Team September Camp/Fall Festival.

Poulin, Mélodie Daoust (Valleyfield, Que./McGill University, QSSF) and Jayna Hefford (Kingston, Ont./Brampton, CWHL) scored goals in a 7:19 span late in the second period, turning a 2-1 Royals lead into a 4-2 advantage for White after 40 minutes.

Hefford finished with a goal and two assists, while Daoust, Carolyne Prévost (Sarnia, Ont./University of Wisconsin, WCHA) and Laura McIntosh (Waterloo, Ont./Ohio State University, WCHA) added a goal and a helper each. Charline Labonté (Boisbriand, Que./McGill University, QSSF) made 28 saves to record the victory in her first appearance of the camp.

Matthew Thomas, Mitchell Collett, Tanner Ockey and Chris Newton scored the goals for the Royals, who never got closer than two goals after surrendering their second-period lead. Ockey added an assist to his goal, while Angus Johnston finished with three assists in a losing cause.

White is back on the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena ice on Saturday, taking on the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA boys team (3:45 p.m. MT), while the Royals meet Red in Saturday’s early game (12:30 p.m. MT) after they face the Northstars in an all-Midget match-up on Friday night.
