SWEDEN TAKES THIRD PLACE AT 4 NATIONS CUP

Boxscore

Kitchener, ON – Finland came up with a great effort, but it was still not enough in the 4 Nations Cup bronze medal game, as Sweden scored a 3-2 win. Veteran Maria Rooth scored the winner in the third period to make the difference.

After winning their round robin game 8-3, Sweden staked itself to a 2-0 first period lead. Team captain Erika Holst opened the scoring at 3:26, then Helena Tagesson gave the Swedes a two goal advantage at 16:21.

But Finland wasn’t going to quit on this day. Mari Pehkonen scored in the second, and then Kati Kovalainen tied it early in the third period.

Sweden restored its lead, with the eventual game-winner, as Maria Rooth stood strong in front of the net and finally put a rebound past Swedish goaltender Sara Grahn.
