Round Robin

Calgary, AB
Father David Bauer Arena

It was Team Canada vs the UFA Bisons on Saturday afternoon in front of crowd of about 200 a the father David Bauer Arena.

Despite some early pressure from the Bisons, it was Canada who struck first.  Meghan Agosta netted her first goal of the tourney after an impressive effort.  She recovered her own rebound after her initial shot was blocked in front, and roofed it over the blocker of Bisons goaltender Brett Hamm.  The Bisons tied it up at one just under two minutes later as Canada got caught deep in the offensive zone allowing the Bisons to break out 3 on 1 with Sostorics being the lone defenceman back.  Jordan Kwas carried the puck up the ice and dropped it for trailer Brandan Hooogen Boom who made no mistake sliding it by Chraline Labonté.

Labonté stood strong in goal for team Canada as she turned away 14 of 15 shots and made several key highlight saves to keep the score tied at 1 apiece going into the 2nd period.  The first power-play of the game went to the Bisons as Cherie Piper was called for roughing early in the second but the Bisons could not convert and mustered but two shots.

The Bisons took their first lead of the game as Michael Young slid one through a screened Labonté midway through the second to give his team a 2-1 lead.  Jennifer Boterill quickly replied for Canada banging home a rebound off of a wrap around attempt by Cherie Piper.  Thirty-four seconds later, the Bisons regained their one goal advantage as Brandon Miller backhanded one off the post past a stunned Labonté.

Despite outshooting the Bisons 13-12 in the 2nd, the Bisons took the 3-2 lead into the third. Team Canada suffered their second penalty of the game early in the 3rd period as Delaney Collins was sent off for high sticking but once again, they held on and killed off the penalty.

Canada was then awarded their fist power-play of the game midaway through thte 3rd period as Kassidy Collins wrestled down Agosta and was called for interference.  However, much like their opponents, Canada was unable to find the back of the net.

The Bisons put the game away late in the third as Brandon Hoogenboom picked up a loose puck and went in all alone on Labonté beating her on a nifty move.  Team Canada outshot their opponents 37-35 but came up short falling to the Bisons by a 4-2 score.
