CALGARY, AB – The game wasn’t even two minutes old and both teams had already exchanged goals. The Flames opened the scoring 29 seconds into the first, but Canada replied 1:20 later when Meghan Agosta buried one past Flames starting goaltender Matt Joneson. Canada then jumped out to a 2-1 lead when Gillian Apps came out of the penalty box and set up Vicky Sunohara for a goal. Danielle Goyette converted on a pass to the slot from Gina Kingsbury to put Canada up by two heading in to the second.

With both teams exchanging chances in the second, but neither one could find the back of the net. Kim St-Pierre made 14 saves in net for Canada, while the Flames split the duties. Starter Matt Joneson made 2 saves before Chad Fox came in at the 11:01 mark and made 4 saves.

The Flames started off the third period much the same as the first by scoring a goal in the first minute of the period. Cole Westersund scored a short handed goal at 19:13 to open the scoring in the third. But in a repeat of the first period, Canada responded with a goal a minute later, this time Sarah Vaillancourt was the sniper. With Canada up 4-2, Vaillancourt added her second of the period while Gillian Apps added her second assist of the game. Sean Manery scored with just over eight minutes to play, but that was a close as the Flames would get. Canada registered its first win against Midget AAA competition as they won 5-3 against the previously undefeated Calgary Flames. Kim St-Pierre finished with 32 saves on the night between the pipes for the National team.

Canada will face the Calgary Royals at 7:30 pm Thursday night at Father David Bauer Arena.
