MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Kinplex in Medicine Hat was jam packed for the second time this season to see the hometown Big Country Energy Service Tigers Midget AAA team take on Canada’s Women’s Olympic team.   The first period featured good scoring chances at both ends but goaltenders Charline Labonte and Brennon McDougall were both solid making 10 saves each to keep the game scoreless.

Team Canada opened the scoring on the powerplay just over a minute into the second period as Gillian Apps banged home a rebound off of a Hayley Wickenheiser point shot.  Gina Kingsbury also recorded an assist on the play.  Cassie Campbell added to the lead five minutes later as she converted a beautiful passing play from Danielle Goyette and Kingsbury.  The Tigers pulled to within one a minute later as David Robb came down the wing and beat Labonte with a wrist shot.  Medicine Hat evened the score late in the second period when Jarret Granberg’s centring pass caromed off a skate into the Canadian net.

The crazy bounces continued into the third period.  Caroline Ouellette put Canada ahead thirteen seconds into the period as her point shot beat a screened McDougall through the five hole.    Granberg’s second goal of the night bounced in off of a Canadian player to tie the game on the powerplay at 8:48.  The Tigers game winner scored by Trevor Sackman with just over five minutes remaining also bounced in off of a Canadian defender.

The game was an exciting one to watch with lots of good scoring chances at each end.  The excitement continued after regulation time as the teams engaged in a five player shootout.  Team Canada won the shootout portion of the evening as Gina Kingsbury, Meghan Agosta, Jayna Hefford and Hayley Wickenheiser all successfully beat McDougall in the Medicine Hat net.  Trevor Sackman, David Robb and Jarret Granberg replied for the Tigers in the shootout.

Immediately following the game, Team Canada travelled to Lethbridge to face the Lethbridge AAA Y’s Men Titans on Wednesday evening.
