VIERUMAKI, FI - Canada's National Women's team captured its third consecutive 3 Nations Cup championship, with a 5-2 victory over Finland, in Mikkeli, Finland on Tuesday.

Canada took all of 11 seconds to open the scoring as Hayley Wickenheiser converted a Danielle Goyette set-up pass past Finland's netminder Tuula Puputti.

Canada's Caroline Ouellette continued on her torrid scoring pace at the 3 Nations Cup, talling her 5th goal of the tournament at 6:40 of the first period, with Colleen Sostorics getting the assist. Canada ran into penalty problems, but the team's penalty killing units were up to the challenge. Canada's Danielle Goyette came out of the penalty box to score a breakaway shorthanded goal, sliding the puck under the Finnish goalie, Puputti to make the score 3-0 Canada at the end of two periods.

In the third period, Jayna Hefford added a fourth Canadian goal before Petra Vaarakallio of Finland ruined Kim St-Pierre's bid for a shutout at 3:26. A minute and 13 seconds later, Canada's Jennifer Botterill scored to make it 5-1 Canada. Finland's Riikka Nieminen rounded out the scoring for Finland in third period.

Canada completed the 2001 3 Nations Cup with a final score win of 5-2 over Finland. Canada returns home from Europe on November 7th. The Team Canada players have a short break from training, prior to returning to Calgary on November 14th as they continue training for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Canada's next games are November 27th (Corel Centre, Ottawa, ON) November 28th (Molson Centre, Montreal, QC) and November 30th (Copps Coliseum, Hamilton, ON) against the USA in the TSN Challenge.
