Jonkoping, Sweden - Canada's Men's World Championship team edged Team Sweden 4-3 in an exhibition game here on Wednesday prior to the World Championship starting Saturday.

In front of a standing room only crowd of over 6,000, Canada opened the scoring of the game at 10:12 of the first period when Ray Whitney scored on Swedish goaltender Tommy Salo, with Daniel Cleary and Peter Schaefer getting the assists for Canada.

Sweden scored just over a minute later when Andreas Johansson scored an unassisted goal at 12:08, with a shot past Canadian goaltender Jean-Sébastien Giguère.

Dany Heatley scored at 18:49 of the first period, with Edmonton native Mike Comrie getting the lone assist for Canada. Canada outshot Sweden 8 to 6 in the first period of play.

Canada led Sweden by the score of 3-1 after two periods of play, when Daniel Cleary wrapped the puck around from behind the Swedish goal, and Canadian forward Andy McDonald banged the rebound past Swedish goaltender Salo. Sweden edged Canada in shots in the second period, 8-6, with Giguère making some big stops during the period.

Sweden came out flying in the third period, scoring two goals in just over four minutes into the third period of play. Mathias Johansson scored at 1:34 of the third, and Ulf Dahlen added another to tie the game 3-3. Both goals came against Marty Turco, who replaced Giguère in Canada's net to start the third period. Canada earned the victory late in the game, as Tyler Wright scored shorthanded at 19:34 of the final period.
