CANADA BLANKS KOREANS, TO PLAY FOR JAPAN GOLD

NAGANO, Japan – Four players had multiple-point games, lead by a goal and two assists from Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.), as Canada’s National Sledge Team advanced to the gold medal game at the 2012 Japan Four Nations Tournament with a 6-0 semifinal win over Korea on Saturday.

The Canadians will face Norway in the final on Sunday, although the game will start on Saturday night in some parts of Canada (12 midnight ET/9 p.m. PT).

In addition to Westlake’s output, Canada got a goal and an assist each from Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.), Dominic Larocque (Quebec City, Que.) and Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) as it won its 14th game in a row, dating back to a 1-0 loss to the Norwegians last March in Nagano.

Kevin Rempel (Vineland, Ont.) and Kieran Block (Edmonton, Alta.) had the other Canadian goals.

After a slow start offensively for both teams – Canada led 2-0 through two periods, outshooting the Koreans 4-1 – the Canadians erupted for three goals in 2:24 midway through the third period before Westlake rounded out the scoring in the final seconds.

Benoit St-Amand (St-Hubert, Que.) earned the shutout in the Canadian goal, needing to make just four saves.
