TWO EARLY GOALS GIVE CANADA LEAD, BUT SLEDGE DEV TEAM DROPS SECOND IN A ROW

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. – Ben Biermann (Ardrossan, Alta.) and Cam Sinclair (Mount Brydges, Ont.) scored in the first 12 minutes to give Canada’s National Sledge Development Team an early lead, but three unanswered third-period goals by the United States left the Canadians with a 6-3 loss on Friday night, their second in as many nights to the U.S.

The Americans won the opener of the three-game series on Thursday, scoring a 2-1 victory.

Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) had the other goal for the Canadians, briefly tying the game 3-3 late in the second period. McGregor’s goal was his second in as many games – he had the lone Team Canada goal on Thursday.

Josh MacDonald (Surrey, B.C.) put his name on the scoresheet for the second game in a row, picking up an assist, while Nicholas Tessier (Casselman, Ont.) and Brendan Blanchard (Chatham, Ont.) also added helpers.

Tim Shoemaker, Josh Wirt and Danny McDevitt paced the American offence with two goals apiece. Wirt scored the winner just 13 seconds into the third period, helping the U.S. to back-to-back wins over the Canadians for the first time ever.

Chris Wood (London, Ont.) got the start for the Canadians and made 19 saves in a losing cause. Canada was outshot heavily for the second game in a row; the Americans held a 25-11 advantage on Friday, one night after outshooting the Canadians 24-12.

The teams conclude the three-game series at the Extreme Ice Center, just outside of Charlotte, on Saturday afternoon (1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT).
