CANADA TO FACE U.S. IN SLEDGE GOLD MEDAL GAME AFTER ROUT OF GERMANY

VANCOUVER, BC – Billy Bridges (Summerside, PEI) scored three goals and added three assists to lead Canada’s National Sledge Team to a 9-0 victory over Germany in semifinal action at the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup on Saturday.

Bridges scored once in the first period and twice more in the second as Canada coasted to a win to earn a berth in Sunday’s gold medal game. That game, between Canada and the United States, can be seen live on TSN2 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.

Greg Westlake (Oakville, ON) chipped in with three goals, while Adam Dixon (Midland, ON), Hervé Lord (St-Pamphile, QC) and Graeme Murray (Gravenhurst, ON) also found the scoresheet.

Paul Rosen (Thornhill, ON) made nine saves for the shutout.

Canada took it to Germany early on, with Dixon opening the scoring just 1:32 into the game. By the 8:53 mark, Westlake and Bridges had added to the lead, and Canada was well on its way.

The Canadian power play went to work early in the second, as Bridges and Westlake counted goals on the man advantage in the first 83 seconds of the frame to push the lead to 5-0. Bridges completed his hat trick with a shorthanded marker in the second period, while Westlake wrapped up his trick with a power play goal just shy of the midway point of the third.

The win was the second in five days for Canada over Germany - the Canadians rolled to a 12-1 win over the Germans in the tournament opener for both on Tuesday.
