2014 Olympic Winter Games (Men)

My Team Canada - Chuck Hughes

“I played organized hockey until Peewee, which is when my dad told me to make a decision between hockey and skiing. I chose skiing because I believed I could get far in the sport; I really thought that! But all through my childhood, I loved hockey. I played house league and with NDG in Montreal; every weekend, I couldn’t wait to get on the ice.

“Now I just play for fun. For the last four or five years, we play on a regular basis at the Bell Centre at 6 a.m. It’s early, but we do it for the love of the game!

“I’ve always been a hockey fan; I’ve loved the Montreal Canadiens since I was a kid, and Stéphane Richer was my hero back in the day. Now he comes to my restaurant to eat; he’s still built like a tank!

“A lot of NHL players come into my restaurant; guys like P.K. Subban, Carey Price, Saku Koivu and Kristopher Letang. What I like is that when guys get traded, they spread the word. A guy like Saku Koivu always sends people here. I love it, these guys eat a lot! Players who play elsewhere will come back in the off-season and will have a bite to eat at my restaurant. Guys like Martin St. Louis or Claude Giroux always come back in the summer. I love it; we talk hockey and share our passion!”

WHY?: I am so excited about the Olympics. We always dream about watching Canada’s best players together; I’ll be watching all the games. This is our moment! I have to be honest, when I did my choices, I went with the guys I knew; clients at the restaurant and who became friends. Most of them are guys from Quebec! But let’s be honest, whoever is on the team, we know they will represent Canada well. You can’t go wrong with the best hockey players in the country!
