MANITOBA EARNS SPOT TO GO FOR GOLD FOR FIRST TIME AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Blueliner Larissa Martyniuk (Winnipeg, Man.) stepped up early in the game for Manitoba, finding the back of the B.C. net at 4:45 in the period with a little help from Jessie Stott (Niverville, Man.) and Karissa Kirkup (Virden, Man.).

A B.C. penalty gave Manitoba’s Halli Krzyzaniak (Neepawa, Man.) the chance to add another to the scoreboard at 15:18 in the first to make it 2-0 going into the intermission.

The second period was also all about Manitoba, with Martyniuk adding her second of the night less than a minute and a half into the period, and Danielle Krzyszczyk (Winnipeg, Man.) increasing the lead to 4-0 midway through the middle frame.

British Columbia skated with passion and pride throughout the game, including into the third period, and Jessie Olfret (Penticton, B.C.). was finally able to get the home province up on the board at 16:45 in the third. The goal sent the local crowd into loud celebration, with fans jumping in the stands and players jumping on the bench and on the ice, but it was too little, too late for British Columbia.

Manitoba skated away with the semifinal win, and a spot in Sunday’s gold medal game. Check out hockeycanada.fasthockey.com to watch the bronze medal game live, go to  www.TSN.ca to see the gold medal game live and follow all the action from the arena at www.Twitter.com/HC_NWU18C.
