The Richmond Steelers are a Senior AAA club team established in 1999, and competes in the South Coast Female Amateur Hockey League in the Greater Vancouver area against the NWHL Vancouver Griffins and other club teams. The Steelers are the youngest team in the Senior AAA league with an average age of 18. The main goal of the team is to prepare players for collegiate level play and to give players much needed exposure to collegiate coaches. Over the past three years, the Richmond Steelers have been the most heavily scouted team in Western Canada having attended both the Connecticut Polar Bear Tournament and Brampton Canadettes Tournament. The team is also scouted on a regular basis by various college coaches who fly out to Richmond to see the team play. No other club team in Western Canada has placed more players into US Division colleges in the past three years. A list of our graduates include Carmen Milne (Mercyhurst), Michelle Rennie (Mercyhurst/Elmira), Louise Chim (Harvard), Ann McLellan (Niagara), Laura Maddin (Maine), Lindsay Ball (Northeastern), Danielle Grundy (Dartmouth), Desi Clark (Mercyhurst), Jaclyn Haines (Ohio State), Shannon Fong (Elmira), and Jennifer Raimondi (Harvard). The Steelers have been coached by Head Coach Steve Bradford for the last two years. Known for his emphasis on individual player development, coach Bradford has guided the Steelers to two consecutive B.C. Provincial Championship appearances. Coach Bradford is assisted by assistant coach Alan Chim who has coached the Steelers for the last three years, and also acts as college liaison for the team.
